No (Wo)man Is An Island

Did you ever hear Hilary Rodham Clinton say, “it takes a village”? She was referring to raising children but I would argue that it applies to everyone.

Humans are meant to support each other and to live among other humans. We aren’t born alone and we depend on other humans to keep us alive in our formative years.

When we collaborate on a common goal, success is much more likely than if we go it alone. This certainly applies to health goals. We can be more successful in the long term when we work with others who have a similar outcome in mind.

Benefits of teamwork

  • multiple heads brainstorming on overcoming roadblocks can be a lot more effective than just one person
  • group support and encouragement is helpful when someone is feeling frustrated
  • holding oneself accountable while allowing other group members to witness said accountability
  • it’s fun to have someone who understands the struggle to celebrate victories with
  • a little friendly competition can keep some members on track

These are some of the reasons I decided to run a challenge in May (not April, as previously stated). The challenge is to help people jumpstart their way to a healthier lifestyle. It will be the month of May  and together we will start down the path to wellness, For some it may be the first time and for others, it may not be. All are welcome no matter where they on on their journey.

I love the idea of people with a common goal working together to help each other succeed. Your success is my success. It’s  loosely similar to the concept of ubuntu in Africa…”I am because we are“. When we work together, we are better.

What a great idea to be able to goals for a healthy lifestyle and have teammates to cheer you on! I started my healthy eating plan in July 2018 and within a few months I was down 30 pounds and so many healthy issues were gone. While I “stray” a few times (how can I not eat Lia’s delicious baked goods? LOL) I still manage to cook healthy meals and stay on track.

Doesn’t it feel amazing Martha? Kudos to you for mostly staying on track in spite of Lia’s delicious baking. I’ve seen some of your pictures. You look great!
