In Honor

And now for something completely different.

Today we acknowledge two national treasures…The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the inimitable Betty White. We celebrate both of their birthdays today, posthumously. So I thought I would show a few quotes from each to illustrate the impact they have had on us.

Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

“Another way that you love your enemy is this: When the opportunity presents itself for you to defeat your enemy, that is the time which you must not do it. There will come a time, in many instances, when the person who hates you most, the person who has misused you most, the person who has gossiped about you most, the person who has spread false rumors about you most, there will come a time when you will have an opportunity to defeat that person. It might be in terms of a recommendation for a job; it might be in terms of helping that person to make some move in life. That’s the time you must do it. What the FBI said

This statement was in a memo circulated throughout the FBI after King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, .

In the light of King’s powerful demagogic speech yesterday he stands heads and shoulders over all other Negro leaders put together when it comes to influencing great masses of Negros. We must mark him now, if we have not done so before, as the most dangerous Negro of the future in this nation from the standpoint of communism, the Negro, and national security.

So essentially, the FBI declared this man, who spoke of nothing but love and peaceful resistance, a national security risk. Seriously???

On the other hand, we have another national treasure we lost just short of her 100th birthday. We acknowledge and celebrate her today.

Betty White

What the world said

I recently saw a quote on social media that pretty much said, “imagine living almost 100 years and the world not thinking that was long enough”. What a testament to a deep love.

Both of these individuals were here to make life a little better for people, each in their own way. They  lived in integrity and were true to what they believed and wanted to leave the planet a little better than they found it. I think they did.
