Happy Valentine’s Day…What Are You Doing For Your Heart Today?

Happy Valentine’s Day! Are you planning something special with someone special? If you don’t have a partner, are you doing something special for yourself? If not, don’t you think you deserve to be treated well? I think you do.

Treat yourself at least as well as you treat someone else

You don’t need to have another person to be your Valentine…be your own Valentine.

  • Make a nice heart healthy meal for yourself. Salmon has great omega 3 fatty acids that are good for the heart.  Add some green beans almandine and seasoned quinoa and you have yourself a beautiful healthy dinner. Top it off with some avocado chocolate mousse for a sinfully rich ending.
  • Buy yourself some flowers and display them where you can see them. If they have a nice fragrance, so much the better
  • Treat yourself to a spa day or a spa treatment like a facial, mani-pedi or massage. You deserve to be pampered.

Don’t wait for Valentine’s Day or any other special occasion to be good to yourself

Why do you need a specific date on the calendar to treat yourself well? Most of these occasions are what are known as “Hallmark moments” or reasons to purchase greeting cards. They’re also a reason to purchase overpriced meals and other accoutrements to mark a made up holiday.

Pick a day and make it special for yourself. Take yourself on a date or stay home and enjoy your own company. Watch a movie, read a good book in front of a roaring fire, take a nice long luxurious bath with some epsom salts and a little lavender essential oil. Epsom salts contain magnesium which helps to relax your muscles, and lavender helps to relieve stress. Go to bed early and get a good night’s sleep.

Be good to yourself. Eat heart healthy. Get plenty of sleep. Pamper yourself. Be the best date you’ve ever had.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

My Story

Since June 2019, I decided to hold myself accountable for walking my talk. Several years ago, I was able to take off 135 pounds and essentially save my own life. I regained some of that weight in the last couple of years and I’m working my way back down. I’ve lost over 40 pounds since I began in June and have exercised nearly every day since August.

If you choose to join me on this journey, I hope I am able to impart some nutritional and lifestyle wisdom. Even though I may have gone off the rails temporarily I can still share some of my first hand experience as well as my acquired knowledge and training to help you make the right changes to live your best life.
